Channon's Photos

Friend of MN Channon King is obviously recognised for his sick skating both in Russ' video 'Never Forever' and all the way back to Blueprint and the North Essex/Suffolk scenes around the late 90s, early 00s but what people may not have been aware of is his photography. Documenting with an SLR camera and 35mm film Channon has been taking photos for a while and this week he had an article in Tweaker Zine highlighting some of these photos including some of Sandy and Steve Bailey as well as Dave Watson, Nick Jensen, Chewy Cannon, etc. Worth a look plus check out Channon's Flickr too.

Southsea update..

As we mentioned a while back Gary and the Southsea locals have had a huge battle on their hands with their local council to keep their legendary skatepark open. well it seems everyones hard work is paying off and at least for now the park is staying open, which is great news!

Here's a little promo that's been made highlighting the problems everyone has had to deal with and to show how popular and loved the park still is. We especially like the way Gary just can't look at the camera or stop playing with that pen whilst being interviewed! Keep up the good work fella's...

Smith Gold

(31.6MB quicktime)

After Wednesday's update mentioning Mr Neil Smith we thought we'd share a little Smithy gold that's been tucked away in the vaults on a DV tape since 2004. Here's Smithy's section from a South Woodham scene video 'Let's ave it!' that MN friend Phil Humphreys made just before he sold his camera to Russ. A long haired Russ even makes a cameo appearance in the part too! This section had to be shown the light of day as Neil was killing it even back then...start making a list of all the local spots he destroys in this part!

Bored 10 Years/Dave Tee

Who would believe it, Southsea's very own Bored SOS has been on the up for a decade. Time flies when your having fun. The shop has very strong ties with the MN. Paul worked there off and on and lived above the old shop, Kev read math books in there, ahem, 'worked' there (and did some shocking shop fitting) and even russ put in some hours with the cow skin sofa too i think. not to mention that the bossman Gary is down with the MN (check his skating in essex tour and his part in lately)...backside 50-50 heelflip boom!

Part of the 10 year celebrations is the commission of some arty tees including one by our very own david (and if you're lucky stickers too). click the pic to get on the Bored website and order yourself a tee electronically.

World/101/Plan B/Prime/Alien Workshop at Romford 1994

(10.0MB, quicktime)

Back in the early/mid 90s there used to be the big Radlands summer comps that would draw over most of the American teams and pros. If you got lucky and went to Romford on the following Monday there was a good chance you would see alot of the pros skating an almost empty skatepark before going up to Harwich for the ferry to Europe for the rest of the summer comps. In 1995 in was the Santa Cruz team but in 1994 it was the World Industries, 101, Plan B, Prime and Alien Workshop companies that showed their face at Essex's finest old skatepark. Good friend of the Network ChasOne was there filming and alot of the Monster Network OGs were there in attendance. An incredible day. Markovich's snakerun ollie still leaves people in confusion. The photo taken by Big Brother's Rick Kosick was used for the tour article in Big Brother magazine. Kosick also took a posse shot of the Network crew although sadly that has never seen the light of day!

Filming and Editing : Chris Thomas/Chas One.
Skaters: Colin McKay, Natas, Hensley, Markovich, Dill, Kareem, Caine Gayle, Jeremy Wray, Fred Gall...

Can anyone name anyone else? Other skaters there that day were Mike Crum...can anyone remember anyone else who was there? Comment your memories of the day...

p.s. Awaiting LBDs embaressing story...
