Pink 3

July 10th, 2006

Filmed on a wet, cold winter’s night in late 2002 at Lakeside at the legendary pink zone level 3, the pink 3. Nothing beats a super smooth surface and a waxed curb/manual pad and some friends making the most of one of the few decent dry spots in Essex. That night the carpark was closed and we got kicked out of the one opposite by a security guard. We asked him if they could turn on the lights in Pink 3 for us to skate and as a complete suprise he said yes they would turn on a couple of strips of lighting. Probably the best security guard ever.

Skating by Dan Jacka, Russ Cowling and Paul Gonella. Filmed and Edited by Paul Gonella. Music is ‘The American Adventure’ by The Electric Soft Parade.

Sweden Premiere

July 7th, 2006

Russ was away this week in Sweden helping MN close friends The Harmony film for their next visual epic due out early next year. Whilst there he treated the crew to an ‘Into The Fall’ premiere swedish style! Think they liked it, especially Danijel Todorovic who can be seen disecting Royal London banks in Veran’s section. “GET DOWN VECTERAN!”

‘Wasting Time’ in Southsea

July 6th, 2006

Wasting Time Launch Party Poster

Down in Southsea the creative workhorse that is Smooth Mike (also one half of Go Human) has been compiling a book of his photography taken between the early to the late 90s. The book oozes quality in it’s construction, layout and content which focuses on the skateboarding and friendship of the southsea skate crew back then, all from Mike’s own personal perspective behind his lens. The book is incredible, see a few photos from an advance copy below for just a glance at how good it is. The launch party for the book is on the 24th of this month in Southsea which should be a classic Southsea booze up of cold drinks in the warm evening by the sea. Will be seeing you down there for that. The book should be available from Gaz at Bored not long after the launch. Bored has been southsea’s finest SOS skateshop for nigh on a decade now, but just don’t think you can take on the discount calculator of doom…you will fail!

Ipswich taken out by South Woodham

July 5th, 2006

Back in the last few weeks of filming for ‘Into the Fall’ we hooked up with some of South Woodham’s finest, Neil Smith and Reese Westlake, in Ipswich for a day skating loads of spots old and new. The footage fruits of Neil’s labour are in the video for all to see, awesome stuff. One thing you didn’t see in the video was the super close nollie heelflip attempt down the theatre stairs…blimey. those stairs are a touch on the fucking massive side. Gonz took a few photos that day too…

p.s. Reese came second place at the Crossfire Southbank best trick comp the other weekend, pop shove-it late flip…mental, good work fella

Last Skate Before Home

July 2nd, 2006

Yesterday was LBD’s last skate in the UK before going home to New Zealand. It was a baking hot Saturday afternoon but a bunch of us still went out to make the most of the last few hours before England got put out of the World Cup. It was a fun session at the park and street skating, just hanging out with friends. Gonz filmed a couple of tricks and took a few photos of Dan, Tom, Dave, Sandy, Veran and Steve. It’s been super good having you back in the UK for a little bit Dan, going to miss you (again!).
